One of Poland’s top golf resorts has embarked on a series of phased developments that has already seen the course named as one of the best tracks in Europe. The latest raft of improvements at Modry Las Golf Club will see the introduction of a challenging nine-hole short course, a specially designed golf academy and stylish, on-site self-catering accommodation.

Designed by Gary Player and opened three years ago, Modry Las Golf Club is recognised as one of most beautiful courses in Poland and was first selected by Golf World magazine in its top 100 European golf courses in 2009. These latest developments are designed to complement what is fast becoming one of Europe’s most sought-after golfing experiences.

“Creating a truly world-class golf course was the first and most important stage of our plans at Modry Las,” explained Arthur Gromadzki, chairman of Modry Las Golf Club. “The idea was to create a premier international golf resort centred around Gary Player’s superb design. With the course built and maturing nicely, the time was right to continue with the development of the resort. The new short course, golf academy and cottages will take us to the next level and provide our members and visitors with improved services and facilities.”

Designed by Theo Geertshuis, design coordinator at Gary Player Design, The Orli Las nine-hole golf course has been created to provide golfers of all standards with an opportunity to improve their game on a course that takes less than an hour to play.

“In my experience, short courses are a fantastic addition to any golf resort and if managed properly, can provide a fun and practical alternative to the championship course,” noted Stewart Snedden, director of golf at Modry Las Golf Club. “Learners and improving golfers can go out there and get a good understanding of the basics while advanced players can work on their control and approach shots. It’s a great facility.”

To complement the short course, foundations are also being laid for a specially designed Modry Las Academy which will provide covered teaching bays overlooking the driving range, a debriefing area, club and equipment sales and a club-fitting service. In addition, plans have also been drawn up to build a number of self-catering cottages each being able to accommodate up to four golfers. To be launched this summer, the well-appointed detached houses will provide a relaxing retreat after an invigorating round.

“There is certainly a lot going on,” said Gromadzki. “The 2012 season will be the busiest yet at Modry Las. With the new short course, academy and accommodation about to be introduced, it is sure to be exciting.”
